Child Neglect in Assisted Living Centers

Assisted living centers differ from nursing homes in that they not only offer assistance to the elderly, but also to children at certain ages with disabilities. As a result, it is possible for child abuse to occur in assisted living centers. The most common form of child abuse is negligence of the child. Although there are some residents of assisted living centers that can care for themselves and their health and require only minimal assistance, there are others who require much more. Assumption that a resident can do certain things for themselves puts that resident in a potentially negligent situation.

Types of Neglect

  • Lack or Delay of Health Care
  • Malnutrition
  • Abandonment
  • Inadequate Supervision

Children should not have to face this or any other type of neglect or abuse in assisted living centers. If you suspect this is happening, you can contact an Arizona Attorney to get compensation for any damages that may have occurred to your loved one. The fact that your loved one may be able to take care of certain things for themselves does not mean they should be put in a position of negligence from staff at an assisted living center. It is vital that residents get the proper amount of assistance such as adequate nutrition and supervision. A lack of supervision could put your loved one in danger of injuries, especially if they are physically disabled. Physically handicapped individuals are not always able to support their weight and as a result may fall and suffer many injuries such as broken bones, cuts or bruises. Unfortunately, lack of supervision could also cause a fatality because the individual is not receiving the proper care and assistance they require.

If the individual cannot care for their health properly, it is the responsibility of the staff in an assisted living center to provide any and all assistance they may need to ensure the proper health of the residents. Prevention of negligence or abuse may not always be possible, but there are ways to ensure your loved ones receive the proper assistance and care that they deserve in an Arizona Assisted Living Center.

How Can You Be Sure Your Loved Ones Are Being Taken Care of?

There are many ways you can ensure that your loved ones will receive all the assistance they need and all the care they may require while living in an Arizona Assisted Living Center. Ask if a staff member can show you around the facility and take note of things such as cleanliness, alertness of staff members, make sure other residents appear happy to be there and appear to be well taken care of, make sure there are no other potential dangers within the facility. These are just a few things that you can do to make sure your loved ones will not be neglected or abused in the facility. If you suspect there is negligence or abuse occurring in the facility, you can contact the proper authorities, or if your loved one has been abused, you can contact an Arizona Attorney for assistance in the matter.
